It’s Ka-ka-ka-ken, ca-ca-ca-coming to ka-ka-ka-kill me!
Mosquita y Mari—the film about the tender love between two Chicana teenagers growing up in Huntington Park, one of the most vibrant immigrant Latino communities in Los Angeles—now has an official trailer.
The film will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this Saturday. There are five screenings of the film and only one them has tickets available online—so get your tickets ASAP.
I’m really excited because at some point in the future, I will be able to watch this film. Life is grand.

8:35 p.m. I wish I were watching ‘Star Wars.’
I was a little surprised to find something so readable and interesting on a blog.moviefone.com url.

weekend netflix
In the order that I remember them and with estimated hours spent watching:
- Stray Cat Rock: Sex Hunter - Sooo, I was expecting some kinda Japanese punk roxxx exploitation film, and instead I got an interesting movie about mixed-race Japanese people (products of the American military presence) being targeted by racist gangs in 70s Japan. With exploitation. (1.5 hrs)
- True Grit - Not bad, but also felt kinda unfinished. (2 hrs)
- Red Riding Hood - which was not good, even in a “maybe it will suck so bad it will be awesome!” kinda way. (2 hrs)
- Three episodes of X-Files (Season 2) - I’m really digging on Season 2 Mulder & Scully. (3 hrs)
- Many episodes of Roseanne (Seasons 4 & 5). (3 hrs)
- First two episodes of Twin Peaks. (2 hrs)
- Two episodes of X-Men, 90’s edition. Remember how the theme goes duh-nuh-nuh-nuh-NAH NAH- duh nuh nuh nuh- NAH NAH- deer nerrp!? It’s the best. (1 hr)
- The Horde - A movie about French cops & drug dealers who never figure out that you have to shoot zombies in the head. (2 hrs)
- Toxic Avenger. (1.5 hrs)
- Shiver - a kid with sun allergies movies to a small village, and then get’s blamed when people start dying in gruesome ways. Pretty good thriller, alright monster movie. (2 hrs)
19 hrs of television! From about 7pm Friday to 7pm Sunday. Good times. (I have gallstones).
“You were born with an asshole, Doris, you don’t need Chuck.”
Best line in the best movie ever. One of those assertions may be influenced by percoset.
Sucker Punched
If you think a movie where a girl gets forced against her will into a mental institution by her evil stepfather, then fantasizes about being a whore to escape that terrible reality, then fantasizes about being a fetish-clad warrior to escape that terrible reality, then gets forcibly lobotomized by another man thus ending all her free will and ability for escape from any reality is empowering to women, then, well – I can do nothing for you, son.

It’s fun. The humor and action mixed together perfectly. There isn’t a dull moment to be had. It shames every single alien film we’ve seen since District 9 (including Avatar) when it comes to pacing and heart. But most importantly it’s fun, nail biting, laugh-out-loud, good, old fashioned alien chasing fun (via Attack the Block: The Alien Invasion Movie You’ve Been Waiting For)
Officially on my to-do list.
